100 examined in Max Hospital’s health camp at Manimajra

As many as 100 people were examined during a free health checkup camp at Manimajra on Sunday. Sarabjeet Kaur, Chandigarh Mayor inaugurated the camp which was organized by RWA Modern Housing Complex in association with Max Hospital, Mohali.

During the occasion, Max Hospital also distributed first aid kits.
Brig Dr. HS Bhatoe, Senior Director Neurosurgery, Max Hospital also addressed a health talk on ‘how to keep the brain healthy with growing age’.
He said that as we get older, it’s common to experience some cognitive decline like forgetting people’s names, losing track of time, and other instances.
“Making a few lifestyle changes can help keep your brain healthy well into old age and may prevent or slow the onset of neurological disorders like Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia,” He further said that sleeping well is one of the easiest and most effective ways to improve brain functions, as well as the ability to learn and remember new knowledge.

What’s good for the heart is also good for the brain, said Bhatoe while recommending a Mediterranean-like diet—one rich in vegetables, berries, beans, whole grains, fish, poultry, and olive oil.

“Having close relationships with others is important to a happy and healthy life and it may help you live longer. It’s important for brain health also as research suggests its opposite, loneliness can bring many diseases.

Combining and socializing, taking a walk or class with a friend, joining a team sport, or volunteering and socializing with more diverse people or people of different generations can also be a plus, Dr. Bhatoe suggested.

“Also get at least 30 minutes of exercise three times a week. Exercise increases oxygen to the brain, boosts brain waste disposal, and stimulates your motor and sensory systems,”

Develop tools to get through stressful moments, like breathing exercises, journaling, or yoga, he advised.
