Punjab govt has decided not to honour the personalities from different fields of society, on this Independence Day, for their achievements, during this year state level or district level Independence Day function. As per traditions, state government/district administration honour personalities from different strata of life, for their contribution to society.
This year state level Independence day function is going to be held at Shaheed Major Harminderpal Singh (Shaurya Chakra) Government College in Phase-6, SAS Nagar (Mohali), where chief minister of Punjab, Capt Amarinder Singh is going to unfurl the National Flag.
Even districts have also planned to not to honour any personality on this Independence Day function, due to rising number of covid cases in Punjab.
Sri Muktsar Sahib Deputy Commissioner MK Arvind Kumar has said that “we will definitely honour the the personalities, Covid warriors of our district, but at some other time, not on this year Independence day.
Sangrur deputy commissioner Ramvir also confirmed the same. Aashika Jain, ADC SAS Nagar (Mohali) also confirmed that no state level awards will be given at Mohali.
On the other hand district administration Mohali is going to organise a live webcast of the Punjab chief minister’s flag hoisting ceremony and other programmes on social media platforms like-Facebook and other platforms, to avoid manual rush on this ceremony. As per the planned around half an hour programme, the hoisting of the Tricolour will be followed by a march past by police contingents and the chief guest’s address.
“We will be telecasting the programme online and the public will be informed (about it) well in advance. Only 10 persons will be allowed on the stage and the entire programme will be a 20-minute affair,” said SAS Nagar deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan, on Monday.
The govt has also instructed the Directions had been issued to the district education officers (primary and secondary) to ensure that no government or private school organised any celebrations on campus involving student participation. They can celebrate the programme, virtually, if they want to celebrate.
